Below is important Information for VCAP Instructors:


Syllabus -
I wanted to be sure that you are each aware of a recent Board Rule change
that is required content for all syllabi.
A syllabus must be distributed to your students, Department Chair, and Program Director.  
The following items must be included:

  1. Basis for determining each student’s grade
  2. Grading criteria
  3. SLOs
  4. Accommodation statement for students who are registered with Services for
    Students with Disabilities Office (SSD) – see their handbook for suggested language.
  5. Instructor contact information
  6. Reference to the Student Code of Conduct regarding academic dishonesty

Syllabus. During the first week of classes, the faculty members teaching classes shall
provide students and the Department Chairperson (in hard copy or electronically) a
syllabus that describes work product which will be the basis for determining each student's
grade in the class as well as the grading criteria for the class. Furthermore, the syllabus
shall include the approved course student learning outcomes, an accommodation
statement for students registered through the DSPS office, instructor contact information,
and a reference to the student code of conduct as it relates to academic dishonesty
(Board Rule 9803.28).

Please remind students that it is their responsibility to drop the class. If they are on
the grade roster and have not attended – the grade received will be an “F”.

Instructor Absence - If you must be absence from your class for any reason, you are
responsible for taking the following steps.

  1. You must call the instructor absence hotline (818) 947-2900 and leave your name,
    phone number, when your class meets, the subject you teach, section number of
    your class, and the type of absence you are reporting.
  2. Call the Campus Sheriff’s office (818) 947-2911 and asked them to post a sign on
    the door of your classroom communicating to the students that class will not meet.

Emergencies - If there is an emergency, please call the Sheriff’s Department here on campus at (818) 947 – 2911; call the Night Dean in Academic Affairs at (818) 947-2326. They are located in the Administration building in Rm. 103. Their hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00AM - 8:30PM and Friday 8:00AM - 4:00PM.

VCAP Classes Visits/Announcements - The VCAP staff will visit your class, at least once per session to distribute add slips and make announcements. Occasionally, we will ask you to make announcements on behalf of the program. We appreciate your cooperation and patience.

Mailboxes - All instructors need an assigned mailbox in the Administration Building mailroom.  If you don’t have a mailbox, you will need to get one. To request a mailbox please contact your department chair. Please be sure to check your box regularly, especially the first day of class. Your class roster, grade roster, messages from students, and any supplies that you have requested will be left in your box.

Final Exams - Your final exam should be given on the last Saturday of the session. If your class does not meet on Saturdays, it must be given on the last day of class. If you need to offer your final on a different day you must make arrangements with Roana Thornock, The VCAP Director. You may contact her at thornorm@lavc.edu or by phone (818) 947-2455.

Reprographic Hours -You may now email your request for copies, for more information go to www.lavc.edu/reprographics (Please note you must have a Los Angeles Community College email address for email services.) For walk in services, Reprographics is open 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM; Mon. to Thurs. and 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Friday. To get a syllabus or handouts printed, Reprographics has a 72 hour turn - around time. For exams, there is a 24 hour turn around time. You can have your printing delivered to the campus Sheriff’s dept. on Weekends. To do this, you have to check off a box on the printing form. If you on campus during Reprographics hours, you can use the self-serve machines. Their telephone number is (818)947-2401.

Other Printing - The CATT Lab is located in the Business Journalism Building Room 103, offers the use of computers for free of charge to students and faculty, printing also available for a small fee of 8 cents per page. Their hours of operation are Monday – Thursday 10:00AM to 9:00PM, Friday 11:00AM to 6:00PM and Saturday 1:00PM to 5:00PM. If you have any questions you can reach them by calling (818) 947- 2401.

Online Grades - Please note that you can no longer submit your grades in form of a hard copy. You must post your grades online. Thus, you will not be issued a hard copy of your roster. To access your roster, Please go to the LACCD faculty Portal https://services.laccd.edu/wfac You will need to enter your user and password.  Your user name is the first six letters of your last name, your first initial, and your middle initial. If your name is shorter than six letters that’s ok, enter your complete last name, your first initial, and your middle initial. Your password is your employee number. If your employee number begins with 6, 7, 8, or, 9 enter it as is. If your employee number begins with a 1, you must enter a zero in front of it. If you are having problems
logging in you may contact Anna Robinson, Sr. Office Assistant at palacial@lavc.edu or by phone (818) 947-2030.  Please be timely in submitting your grades. You have seven working days after the last day of class to turn them in.

AV Equipment - VCAP has one TV/VCR unit, and one transparency projectors located in the Campus Center Bldg. offices. To reserve the equipment, please come in or call Anna Robinson at (818) 947-2530. You will need to fill out a form, sign it, and return it at the end of the class session.  If you work in other buildings Monday - Thursday and do not want to move the equipment, you can reserve the equipment from Instructional Media at (818) 947 - 2485.  On Saturdays, you need to reserve the equipment, and will have to call the Sheriffs’ department and have them unlock the Instructional Media door. After using the equipment, you will need to go through the same procedure to return it. The phone is (818) 947 -2911.

Faculty Office - The VCAP faculty office is located in Campus Center Building Room 228 and is available to you for office hours and preparation for classes. You can request a key for your convenience.  Please fill out the form at the VCAP office, and we will turn it in for you.  After the end of the semester, you must turn in your key to administrative services.

Keys - As an adjunct you will want keys for the faculty restroom, the mailroom, and the faculty office. There is approximately a two weeks lead time needed for key requests. The key request form can be picked up at Academic Affairs office located in the Administration building Rm. 103. Your key notice will be put into your mailbox with the location to pick up the keys. Bookstore - The bookstore carries instructor textbooks, along with food and other items. Check with the bookstore before your class starts to make sure your textbook is in stock. If there is a problem with your textbook, please speak to Jonda Brooks at the bookstore (818) 947-2313 or Anna Robinson (818) 947-2455. The bookstore hours are Monday through Tuesday 7:30AM to 7:15PM; Friday 7:30 to 3:45PM; and the first Saturday of each VCAP session (Hours will be announced in class).
