Public Art at LAVC

Los Angeles Valley College is committed to making public arts part of the daily experience of college students, faculty, and staff, and a resource for the teaching of art.

LAVC’s public art is made possible by Proposition A, AA and J Bond Measure funds which have been set aside for this purpose. The college’s Public Art Committee, a cross section of the campus, makes recommendations to the college community and the college president.

The first approved artwork is a repainting of Kent Twitchell’s The Freeway Lady, an icon of Los Angeles mural art that was destroyed in 1986. It will be painted on a section of the new Student Services building in 2012-13. It will join the nearby Great Wall mural as a college landmark, making LAVC a centerpiece of LA mural art.

Future projects under consideration by the Public Art Committee include works by veteran, mid-career and emerging artists. The committee expects to place major art pieces in a number of locations on campus.
