fyi note graphicTemporary Shutdown of Campus Center Sprinkler System

July 23, 2014

On Wednesday, July 23, from 6 a.m.-1 p.m., Pankow will be shutting off the sprinkler system in the Campus Center to relocate a sprinkler head in the temporary swing space for the campus mailroom on the south end of the first floor of the building. A fire watch will be on duty for the duration of the shutdown. There are no other impacts to campus operations or activities. power switch graphicTemporary Power Shutoff in Selected Areas on Campus for the Omega Data Center

July 20, 2014

On Sunday, July 20 from 12 a.m.-6 a.m., Pankow will be shutting off power to the following areas on campus: Foreign Language, Administration, Motion Picture, and Music buildings. In addition, site lighting for College Road North and South, and the sidewalk lighting for Monarch Square will also lose power during the shutdown. This power outage is necessary in order to connect power to the Omega Data Center. under construction graphicTrenching Across College Road North for Installation of Fire Alarm Conduit

July 11-19, 2014

From Friday, July 11–Saturday, July 19, Pankow will be trenching across College Road North to install a fire alarm conduit; the site is located west of the Music Building and TV Studio, as shown in this site map. During this time, one drive aisle will remain open and a flagman will be present to direct traffic. Open trenches will be plated at the end of the work shift. A second trench will be dug across the grass area and will be fenced off during construction. The trenching work will take place between 5 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be noise, dust, and smoke resulting from the construction. under construction barricade graphicInstallation of New Gas Line to the College Central Plant

July 15-30, 2014

Beginning on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 a.m. – Wednesday, July 30 at 3 p.m., a new gas line will be installed from the main on Ethel Avenue to the Central Plant running through Collins Street. During this period, Collins Street will remain open for vehicle traffic and one lane of Ethel Avenue will remain open for traffic at all times, as shown in this map. Trenching will be on the south side of Collins Street at approximately 1-2 feet from the curb and gutter on the south side of Collins Street. The new gas line will replace an existing gas line running from Oxnard Street through Campus Drive. closed graphicTemporary Closure of Hatteras Street for Street Improvement Work

July 7-18, 2014

Hatteras Street will be closed for traffic beginning Monday, July 7, 2014 at 6 a.m.-Friday, July 18 at 6 a.m., for required street improvement work related to the Parking Structure project. During the time of work, vehicle access to the Business Office, North Gym, and Yang Management trailer will be re-routed through Collins Street, which crosses Ethel Avenue, as illustrated here. All existing ADA paths of travel will also remain uninterrupted, as shown on this map. The proposed work schedule is as follows:

  • July 7 – demolition of Hatteras entrance from Ethel Avenue
  • July 8 – complete demolition and begin grading entrance
  • July 9 – complete grading entrance
  • July 10 – form & rebar entrance
  • July 11 – pour curbs and pour apron
  • July 12-13 – cure time
  • July 14 – pour asphalt
  • July 18 – reopen Hatteras St​reet

construction barricade graphicPartial Shutdown of Walkway on the West Side of Ethel Avenue

March 21 – July 2014

Starting Friday, March 21, at 3 p.m. until the end of construction of the parking structure, the walkway on the west side of Ethel Avenue, which is adjacent to the parking structure construction site, will be closed, as shown on this map. The walkway will remain closed, until approximately July 2014, for the remainder of the parking structure construction, due to necessary construction activities taking place near the sidewalk. The sidewalk on the opposite side of Ethel will remain open for the whole duration and pedestrian traffic may use the routes indicated with arrows on this map to travel on campus. March 10, 2014 Further Notice

Starting on March 10, 2014, Hatteras Street, Campus Drive, and Collins Street will be closed to all vehicles except delivery, construction, and emergency vehicles until further notice. This restriction does not apply to the Business Office staff, patrons of the Adaptive PE Center in the North Gym and access to the parking on the east side of the Campus Center. March 3 – July 2014

Beginning on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 6 a.m., Emelita Street will be closed for construction activities related to the new parking structure. This map shows the extent of the closure, which will be required for construction that will take place until approximately July of this year. The sidewalk on Emelita and the ramp at the corner of Emelita and Campus Drive will remain open for the whole duration of the construction as ADA Path of Travel. caution tape imagePartial Shutdown of Campus Drive to Commence Construction of New Monarch Center Building

November 14, 2013 – March 1, 2015

Beginning on Thursday, November 14, construction for the new Monarch Center will begin and will permanently shut down Campus Drive between Emelita and Hatteras Street. The estimated completion date for this construction work is March 1, 2015. The orange area in this illustration shows the fencing and construction zones for the Monarch Center project. As shown, the location for this project will be the area that currently houses the Cafeteria Building, Campus Drive, and the walkways adjacent to the cafeteria building. The work for this project will take place between 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The corner of Hatteras and Campus Drive will serve as the contractor lay down area. parking signLimited Parking on Ethel Avenue, Emelita Street, and West Hatteras Street Due to the Demolition of the Softball Field and Construction of a New Parking Structure
June 10, 2013 – September 8, 2014

Beginning on June 10, 2013, a new project will be underway which will involve demolition of the softball field to make way for a new parking structure; this project is expected to take about 305 days, reaching completion on September 8, 2014. During this time, there will be limited circulation and parking on Ethel Avenue and no parking on West Hatteras and Emelita Street. Pedestrian access will also be reduced on the walkways at Emelita Street and Ethel Avenue and there will be moderate noise from construction equipment. Both the Business Office and the adjacent parking lot will remain in place until the completion of the new Monarch Center, a project which will be presented in a future notification. Please note: The area within the intersections of Emelita Street, Ethel Avenue, West Hatteras, and Campus Drive, will be fenced off (with the exception of the temporary Business Office and the adjacent parking lot) and from December 2013-January 2014 both Emelita Street and West Hatteras Street will be closed as shown in this illustration. No parking iconParking Lot E and Part of Parking Lot L Closed Due to Construction of the New Community Services Center

April 15, 2013 – September 22, 2014

Construction activities for the new Community Services Center will commence on April 15, 2013; the anticipated completion date will be September 22, 2014. During construction, Parking Lot E and part of Parking Lot L will be closed, and vehicle and pedestrian access around the project area will be limited. There will also be noise, dust, and smoke from construction equipment associated with this project. Fencing will be installed as shown in this illustration. The contractor lay-down area will be within the construction site.
