PASS (Preparing All Students for Success)
Initiatives
Welcome Fair is an event to help new students find their way at LAVC, and teach them how to navigate college successfully.
Upon completing the placement test, students are registered into a math, English and a student success course (Personal Development 1) based on their results. In Personal Development 1, they develop a student educational plan.
Accelerated math shortens the sequence of developmental math courses. LAVC is initially offering a new course (Math 110: Introduction to Algebraic Concepts) that combines the current Math 105 and 112 courses.
CLEAR PATHWAYS
Student success checklists have been developed and posted online for students. Our course offerings are being analyzed and adjusted to help ensure we are offering enough of key courses. Our catalog and schedule of classes will be reorganized around the major pathways to a degree to make these paths clearer to students.
Math and English tutoring are prioritized especially for developmental classes. Tutor training is being conducted on how to help students with student success skills (e.g., note taking, time management, studying).
