One of the aims of the Title III STEM HSI grant is to promote awareness of STEM Careers and encourage students to major in a STEM field.  Former NASA Astronaut Mae C. Jemison, the first woman of color to go to space, urges educators to make STEM “more exciting, ” during the gathering of top executives from the pharmaceutical industry in Washington, D.C. on January 22, 2014 to prescribe a remedy to “reinvigorate” America’s stagnating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) sectors.  She encourages educators to “demystify” the sciences to make it less intimidating, “revitalize” science education by making it “more exciting” and step-up outreach efforts to make sure women and minorities enter STEM fields.

To respond to this challenge, the Math Department and the Math Accelerated Pathways to STEM Grant is holding its first STEM Awareness Week (March 10-14, 2014) and Pi-Day Celebration (3/14) next month. Here is the list of activities for the week.
