Job Training Counselor Elected to Eureka Board
May 11, 2004 -- Job Training counselor Helen Shrager has been elected to the board of Eureka, the widely used California career information system. Shrager will become one of nine board members and will serve a three-year term, during which time her responsibilities will include several trips per year to their headquarters in Richmond, California.
Shrager, who has been a career counselor for the Job Training staff for the past decade, explains her role as quite diverse. "As a board member, I'll help define the diretion of Eureka's services, as well as make decisions on our goals and objectives. While we maintain lofty goals, sometimes they may have to be modified thanks to budgetary considerations."
Founded in 1976, Eureka is the most widely used career information system in California and boasts salary, outlook, and short term training information (down to the county level) for California. Their goals include the development and use of career and labor market information for both individuals and counselors. Future plans call for the addition of short-term training as well as SBO (Steps to Business Ownership).
