April 20, 2007 -- In a ceremony held at the Community Career Development (CCD) WorkSource Center in Los Angeles, the first class targeted at putting veterans on a fast-track to supervisory roles for Metro graduated Friday, as 23 individuals received certificates.
On hand for the ceremony were Don Ott (executive officer, administration, Metro), Stefan Chasnov (director of human resources at Metro), Michael Sherwood (veterans' representative, Employment Development Department), Gloria Moore (executive director of CCD WorkSource Center), Doug Marriott (outreach director, Literacy Network), and Lennie Ciufo (director, Los Angeles Valley College).
FastTrack classes are designed to prepare candidates to qualify for the rigorous Metro bus training program. The class includes instruction in study skills, test taking, DMV test preparation, customer service, and, of course, in this particular class, supervisory skills.
All the partners (Los Angeles Valley College, Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles, CCD Worksource Center, Employment Development Department (EDD), and Metro were honored to be able to offer this outstanding opportunity to veterans while giving them a clear career path.
