The mission of EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) at Los Angeles Valley College is to assist eligible students who have historically experienced economic and educational challenges. To increase access, retention and goal completion, EOPS provides the following "above and beyond" services:
- textbook vouchers
- priority registration
- progress monitoring
- and other services
Here are a few student highlights...
For Andrew, "The hardest thing for me was asking for help. But EOPS took me under their wings. I knew I could never have gotten through all the hurdles without the generous amount of care that extended their office hours. EOPS will always be a part of my past and my future."
As a single mother, Viridiana is… “honestly grateful with what Valley College and the EOPS program has given me. I will never forget it because it really changed my life." She transferred to CSUN as a psychology major with plans of becoming a psychologist.
Wilson is transferring to CSUN as a sociology major with plans of becoming a college professor. He states that, “EOPS has been the most effective contributor to my college experience. Using the elite counseling that I was given, I was afforded the knowledge needed to make the decisions that dramatically affected my college life. EOPS tutoring gave me the tools to successfully understand and complete my math courses when no other tutoring service could help me with my upper division math courses.”
Irina came from Russia with a dream about a better life and better education. “My English was not very good. Every year my English was getting better and with the great help from EOPS/CARE have decided to work toward my Associate degree. My (EOPS) counselor helped me to believe in myself, gain confidence, and encouraged me to go all the way to achieve my goals.“
EOPS and UCLA/LAV-CEED student, Steven, was 1 of 60 Community College students selected to participate in Robotics competition at UCLA. Steven won 2nd place. He thanks, “EOPS very much for informing me about the robotics program and I would like to thank Alma from EOPS especially for the information on the robotics program and others"
