HOW TO MAKE A COUNSELING APPOINTMENT

10 MINUTE SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS:

Students who have questions that can be answered quickly can obtain a 10 minute appointment with a counselor. (Students who require a review of their transcripts will need to make a regular appointment. See below regarding “other counseling appointments.”) These limited number of 10 minute same-day appointments are booked beginning at 8 am Monday through Friday by Counseling Department clerical staff. Please call 818-947-2600, extension 4200 or visit the Counseling Department in the Student Services Annex to make these same-day appointments. Students who call or come in early in the morning have the best chance of getting an appointment for later the same day.

OTHER COUNSELING APPOINTMENTS:

To find out how to make all other counseling appointments, please answer the following questions and click where appropriate:

Question 1

Have you attended any U.S. colleges OUTSIDE of the Los Angeles Community College District (i.e., you attended colleges OTHER than East L.A. College, L.A. City College, Harbor College, Mission College, Pierce College, Southwest College, Trade-Technical College, Valley, and West L.A. College)? STUDENTS MUST DISCLOSE ALL PRIOR U.S. COLLEGE RECORDS.

Yes   /   No

TRANSCRIPT EVALUATION APPOINTMENTS

If you have a college record that includes U.S. transcripts from outside the LA. Community College District, you will need to follow the steps outlined below to obtain an appointment for initial transcript evaluation and for all subsequent appointments.

  • Apply online to Los Angeles Valley College if you have not already done so. An application specifically to Valley College is required even if you have previously applied to other colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District.
  • Request that ALL your previously attended U.S. colleges mail your transcripts to:

Los Angeles Valley College

5800 Fulton Avenue

Valley Glen, California 91401-4096

Attn: Admissions Records Office

Hand delivered transcripts are NOT acceptable – all transcripts must be mailed directly from the college or university to Valley College.

  • Once you have confirmed that your transcripts have been received in the Admissions Office, please call the Counseling Department appointment staff at (818) 947-2600, extension 4200 to schedule a one hour transcript evaluation counseling appointment. Even after your transcripts have been evaluated, you will need to call to make hour appointments for all future appointments.

Question 2

Are you new to Valley College, not yet enrolled at this college or you have yet to begin your first term at this college?

Yes   /    No

STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO VALLEY COLLEGE

Students Enrolled At Other LA District Colleges: If you are new to Valley College but have been enrolled in any of the other colleges of the Los Angeles Community College District(East L.A. College, L.A. City College, Harbor College, Mission College, Pierce College, Southwest College, Trade-Technical College, and West L.A. College), you will need to call the Counseling Department clerical staff at 818-947-2600, extension 4200 to make a 30 minute appointment.

Students New to College: If you are new to college, you have no prior college attendance, click on the following link for a description of the “Steps to a Successful Enrollment at LAVC”. After completing Steps 1 through 3, you will be able to participate in Step 4, Get Oriented and Advised, either online at http://www.lavc.edu/counseling/orientationadvising.html or by following the instructions provided for making an appointment for in-person Orientation/Advisement. Through Orientation/Advisement, you will receive the information you need to successfully enroll in appropriate classes for your first semester.
