40 The Science of Biotechnology (3) UC:CSU

                   Prerequisite: Biology 6 and Chemistry 101.

                   Lecture, 2 hours; laboratory 2 hours

                   This is a comprehensive introductory course to the science of biotechnology.  It involves the

                   learning of theory and offers hands-on laboratory experience.  Examples of the basic tools of

                   Biotechnology covered by this course are gel electrophoresis, transformation, purification of

                   DNA, restriction analysis, construction of a genomic library, DNA hybridization, sequencing

                   and finger printing, cloning by using PCR, Western Blot and Bioinformatics.
