Degrees

• DMFT:  Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy

• LPsy:  Licentiate in Psychology (European/Latin American Psy.D.)

• M.A., M.S. in Psychology, Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, etc.

• MSC:  Master of Science in Counseling

• MSW:  Master's degree in social work or social welfare

  • Required for advancement into an LCSW

• Ph.D.:  Doctor of Philosophy

  • Teaching

  • Independent research

  • Licensed Psychologist: requires meeting state requirements and obtaining a license to practice.

• Psy.D.:  Doctor of Psychology

  • Teaching, research, publishing

  • Licensed Psychologist: requires meeting state requirements and obtaining a license to practice.

   

Masters Level Professional Licenses

• CASAC:

  • Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor

  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor

• CRC: Certified Rehabilitation Counselor

• LCSW: Licensed Clinical Social Worker

• LMFT: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

• LMHC: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LPC in some states)

• LMSW: Licensed Master Social Worker

• LPC: Licensed Professional Counselor (LMHC in some states)

• LPC-BE: Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Eligible

  • Someone who is in the process of getting an LPC. They can bill for services, but not as much as an LPC.
